The North Kingstown School Committee meeting on February 6, 2024, celebrated the achievements of two high school students, Braden Blanchett and Ryan Lukowitz, who were recognized for their selection in the prestigious United States Senate Youth Program. This program, which aims to engage young leaders in government, will see Ryan represent Rhode Island in Washington, D.C., from March 2 to March 9, while Braden serves as the alternate.
Ryan, a senior at North Kingstown High School, was chosen from among the state's top student leaders and will join Senator Jack Reed and Senator Sheldon Whitehouse as part of the 104th national student delegation. Each delegate receives a $10,000 college scholarship, underscoring the program's commitment to fostering future leaders. Ryan's accomplishments are particularly noteworthy as he is visually impaired, yet he has made significant contributions to advocacy for students with disabilities. His involvement includes serving on the Rhode Island Department of Education's student advisory council and volunteering with the National Federation of the Blind.
Braden, a junior, was recognized for his hard work in achieving the alternate position, reflecting the high standards and dedication of North Kingstown students. The committee expressed pride in both students, emphasizing the importance of youth engagement in civic opportunities and the positive impact they can have on their communities.
The meeting highlighted the school district's commitment to recognizing student achievements and fostering an environment where young leaders can thrive. As the community looks forward to the contributions of these students, their recognition serves as an inspiration for others to pursue similar paths in leadership and advocacy.
