Hayward Council supports native tree ordinance to enhance urban canopies

Hayward City Council is taking significant steps to enhance the city’s green spaces and promote environmental sustainability. During the meeting on March 18, 2025, council members expressed strong support for a new tree ordinance aimed at increasing tree canopy coverage throughout the city. Melissa Milliman from Keep Hayward Cleaning Green echoed these sentiments, commending the city for its proactive approach to increasing tree coverage. She noted that not all cities are prioritizing such environmental initiatives, making Hayward's efforts particularly commendable.
