Prince Edward County reviews solar energy facility proposal on 194.8 acres

Prince Edward County is moving forward with plans for a new solar energy facility after a recent Planning Commission meeting held on March 18, 2025. The commission discussed a proposal to construct and operate a 5-megawatt solar energy facility on 194.8 acres of land, located near the intersection of Patrick Henry Highway and Campbell Crossing. This project, presented by Cabin Ventures LLC and Shirley and Folks Family LLC, aims to align with the county's comprehensive plan for sustainable energy development.

The proposed site will feature 61 acres dedicated to solar panels, while the remaining 134 acres will serve as setback buffers and wildlife corridors. The project is designed to enhance the county's renewable energy resources while maintaining agricultural zoning.

During the meeting, Tyson Hutt, co-founder and manager of Commonwealth Energy Partners, provided insights into the project and its potential benefits for the community. The public hearing was properly advertised, and notifications were sent to adjoining property owners, ensuring transparency and community engagement in the planning process.
