Jersey Village Police Department awarded prestigious accreditation by Texas Police Chiefs Association

As the sun dipped below the horizon, casting a warm glow over Jersey Village, the City Council convened for its March 2025 meeting, where community spirit and public service took center stage. Mayor Austin Blais opened the session with a heartfelt invocation and the Pledge of Allegiance, setting a tone of unity and commitment to the community.

One of the highlights of the evening was the recognition of Jason Mahan, the city’s utility supervisor, as the Employee of the Month. Although Mahan was unable to attend due to a family commitment, Mayor Blais praised his exceptional leadership and dedication, particularly in enhancing operational efficiency within the department during recent challenges. “His ability to remain calm under pressure makes him a vital asset to our city,” Blais noted, emphasizing the importance of such qualities in public service.

The meeting continued with a significant presentation from Chief Jeffrey Burt of the Tomball Police Department, who represented the Texas Police Chiefs Association. He proudly awarded the Jersey Village Police Department a certificate of accreditation, recognizing their compliance with rigorous best practices in law enforcement. This achievement places Jersey Village among the elite 7% of law enforcement agencies in Texas that have attained such accreditation, a testament to the department's commitment to excellence and accountability.

Chief Burt elaborated on the extensive process the Jersey Village Police Department underwent to achieve this status, which included a thorough audit of policies and procedures. “This is not just a piece of paper; it symbolizes professional excellence,” he stated, underscoring the ongoing nature of the accreditation process, which will require re-evaluation in four years.

As the meeting progressed, the council moved to a joint public hearing with the Planning and Zoning Commission to discuss proposed zoning amendments for the Jersey Village Crossing District. This initiative aims to rezone areas to better align with the city’s growth and development goals, reflecting the council's proactive approach to urban planning.
