Martinsville DECA students prepare for national competition with fundraising events

The MSD of Martinsville School Board meeting on March 20, 2025, highlighted the achievements of the Martinsville High School DECA chapter and approved several key initiatives for student activities.

During the meeting, Mr. Bell praised the DECA students for their successful slushie business, which has been recognized by the state as a "gold standard" project. The initiative not only served as a fundraiser but also demonstrated strategic planning and execution, particularly during local football games. Mr. Cragan introduced senior Rajvi Patel, the DECA chapter president, who shared insights about the upcoming International Career Development Conference (ICDC) in Orlando, Florida. Patel emphasized the importance of the conference in developing essential business skills and encouraged community support for their fundraising efforts at a local event on April 1.

The board also addressed several administrative matters, including the approval of an overnight trip for the softball team to Terre Haute, the School Nutrition Association annual conference in San Antonio, and the USAD Nationals in Des Moines, Iowa. All activities were noted to incur no costs to district funds.

The meeting concluded with a curriculum report, reinforcing the board's commitment to supporting student development through various extracurricular programs. The successful initiatives and upcoming events reflect the school district's focus on fostering student leadership and community engagement.
