The City of Bonita Springs is gearing up for significant improvements to its recreational facilities, with plans for a new dog park and renovations to existing sports complexes taking center stage at the recent city council meeting on March 19, 2025.
City officials announced that the dog park project is progressing well, with traffic studies and site plans nearing completion. The city aims to submit plans to the Community Development department and the South Florida Water Management District by April, with construction expected to begin this fall. The new park will feature a well for irrigation, moving away from reliance on metered water from Bonita Springs Utilities.

Council members expressed a desire for a more aesthetically pleasing structure, emphasizing the need for a permanent solution to enhance the experience for visitors and families.
Renovations at the soccer complex on Kent Road are also underway, with updates to restrooms and concession stands already completed. Plans are in place to replace the existing lighting with energy-efficient LED fixtures and explore the possibility of installing artificial turf to improve field conditions and usability year-round.
The council also discussed resurfacing tennis courts at the community park and the addition of a restroom facility to accommodate the high volume of visitors. Furthermore, a comprehensive park master plan is set to kick off, funded entirely by a $500,000 grant, aimed at assessing community needs and enhancing park facilities across the city.
These initiatives reflect Bonita Springs' commitment to improving recreational spaces and ensuring they meet the needs of residents and visitors alike. As these projects move forward, the city anticipates a more vibrant and accessible community for all.
