Glendora Lassie League expands teams and improves facilities for youth softball

The Glendora Lassie League is experiencing significant growth, with 44 teams participating in the current spring season, marking a notable increase in community engagement and competitive spirit. This expansion is attributed to the introduction of the Select program, managed by USA Softball, which offers a unique opportunity for girls to form mid-season all-star teams that practice and compete exclusively on Sundays. As the league gears up for its all-star season starting in May, it anticipates an increase in teams from nine to eleven, reflecting the rising interest and participation among young athletes. The league also celebrated a successful fall season, where it hosted a full recreational season for the first time, accommodating 225 girls despite challenges related to field space, which were effectively managed.

Financially, the league has adjusted its registration fee to $275 per girl, a decrease from the previous year, which has not met with any pushback from the community. This fee structure, along with a well-managed snack bar operation generating approximately $20,000 in revenue, supports the league's expenses, including umpire fees and uniforms.

Recent capital improvements have enhanced the facilities, including new backstops and high-quality pitching mats, funded by the league's budget. Additionally, the league has invested in new catcher's gear for all teams, ensuring that every player has access to quality equipment.
