Community revitalization took center stage at the Ironton City Council meeting as Amanda, representing the nonprofit organization Third and Center, outlined the group's impactful initiatives and ambitious goals for 2024. Established in February 2019, Third and Center focuses on fostering community connections through the arts, aiming to transform Ironton and the surrounding Appalachian River region.
In her presentation, Amanda highlighted the organization's significant achievements in 2023, including engaging local youth in community projects, hosting five large-scale events with 1,500 participants, and securing $35,000 in grant funding. The organization also took over operations at the Ironton Senior Center, resulting in a 30% increase in senior participation.
Looking ahead, Third and Center plans to enhance community beautification efforts, restore historic murals, and expand its mural project throughout the city. They will continue their crosswalk installation project to improve downtown safety and promote inclusivity through an "Art for All" event in partnership with local schools.
Amanda also introduced new programs aimed at improving access to arts education and supporting culinary entrepreneurs through a collaborative kitchen initiative. The organization is set to host various community events, including a trash cleanup for Earth Day and the third annual summer solstice music and arts festival, which attracted over 850 attendees last year.
With a commitment to fostering a vibrant community, Third and Center is inviting local residents to participate in their initiatives and support their mission through community partnership opportunities.
