The City Council of Oxford, Ohio, held a meeting on March 24, 2025, to discuss the city's yard waste collection program. The program operates Monday through Friday from March to November, aligning yard waste pickup with residents' regular trash collection days. During the winter months of December, January, and February, yard waste is collected during the first full week of each month.
Residents are allowed to place yard waste in bags or bundles, with specific guidelines: bundles must not exceed 50 pounds, be no longer than three feet, and must be securely tied with twine. If these requirements are not met, a red tag will be placed on the items to inform residents why their yard waste was not collected.
For those who prefer to drop off their yard waste, the City of Oxford provides a facility located at 945 South Main Street. This facility is open Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. and on the first Saturday of each month from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. The facility is a Class 4 Ohio EPA permitted compost site, which allows for the intake of yard waste materials only.
During the meeting, officials highlighted the process of managing collected yard waste. After collection, the waste is brought to the compost facility, where it is ground into mulch after undergoing a two-step grinding process. The city also noted that they regularly aerate the compost piles to aid in decomposition, ensuring that the material is properly processed and stored for future use.
This meeting underscored the city's commitment to effective waste management and environmental sustainability, providing residents with clear guidelines and options for yard waste disposal.
