City awards $511K resurfacing project to Henry W Bergman for local streets

A significant development emerged at the City of Sylvania Council meeting on February 3rd, as officials recommended awarding a resurfacing contract for key local streets. The project, which includes Silica Drive, Summit Street, and Geary Street, has garnered attention due to an unusually high number of bids received—six in total, compared to the typical two or three.

The apparent low bidder, Henry W. Bergman from Genoa, submitted a bid of $511,417, which is nearly 19% below the city’s engineer's estimate of $629,075. This competitive pricing is seen as a positive sign for the city’s infrastructure projects. The second bid came from Helms and Sons at $546,950, also under the estimate by 13%.

City officials noted that the last project completed by Henry W. Bergman on McCord Road was successful, leading to confidence in recommending them for this new contract. The shift to an online bidding platform, Bid Express, was highlighted as a potential factor in attracting more bidders, making the process easier for contractors.

The council is expected to finalize the contract award to Henry W. Bergman, marking a proactive step in enhancing Sylvania’s roadways.
