Judy Williams named Manchester's Citizen of the Month for community dedication

In the heart of New Franklin, a sense of pride filled the air as the City Council gathered to honor a remarkable member of the community, Judy Williams, named Citizen of the Month. The council chamber buzzed with admiration as her extensive contributions to the community were celebrated, showcasing a life dedicated to service and engagement.

Judy, who moved to Manchester at the tender age of three, has woven herself into the fabric of her community through decades of involvement. Her journey began in fifth grade when she and a friend recognized the lack of organized sports for girls. Determined to change this, they successfully organized four teams, laying the groundwork for future generations of female athletes.

Her commitment to youth continued throughout her life. In high school, she initiated the Youth for Christ program, fostering connections among Christian students and mentoring them through the National Honor Society. For over sixty years, Judy has been a steadfast member of her church, teaching Sunday school and actively participating in women's ministry.

Judy's professional life at AT&T spanned eleven years, during which she organized blood drives and community campaigns. After the birth of her second daughter, she shifted her focus to family and community, leading the PTA at both middle and high schools and contributing to local initiatives like TWIGS, which supports young patients at Akron Children's Hospital.

Her influence extends to the Manchester Alumni Association, where she has played a pivotal role in planning events that provide scholarships for students. As the bookkeeper at Manchester Hardware for 25 years, Judy also contributed to the Tudor House Commission, organizing community events that draw thousands each year.

Most recently, Judy spearheaded the establishment of a farmer's market in response to community requests, ensuring its success this past summer and planning for its return next year. Her family, which includes three daughters, seven stepchildren, and a growing number of grandchildren and great-grandchildren, remains her greatest joy. Judy actively supports their endeavors, encouraging them to engage with their community and lead fulfilling lives.

As the council meeting concluded, it was clear that Judy Williams is not just a citizen of New Franklin; she is a cornerstone of the community, embodying the spirit of service and dedication that inspires those around her.
