Tallmadge celebrates National Law Enforcement Appreciation Day and recognizes city departments

In the heart of Tallmadge, Ohio, the City Council convened on January 9, 2025, to address pressing community matters and celebrate local heroes. The meeting opened with a heartfelt acknowledgment of the street department's efforts, particularly under the leadership of Mr. Mike Weigand. Council members praised the team for their exceptional work in maintaining the city’s roads during a challenging winter season marked by early snowfall. Their dedication ensured that residents could navigate the streets safely and comfortably.

As the meeting progressed, the council took a moment to honor National Law Enforcement Appreciation Day, expressing gratitude for the Tallmadge Police Department's unwavering commitment to public safety. The council emphasized that the hard work of local officers does not go unnoticed, reinforcing the community's support for those who protect and serve.

The fire department also received commendation for their rapid response to emergencies, having handled an impressive 43 calls over the weekend. Among these was a structure fire caused by cooking, which was swiftly contained, preventing further damage and ensuring the safety of the residents involved.

In a move to enhance community communication, the council announced the continuation of the Talmadge Circular newsletter, which will now include the rec center magazine in a quarterly format. This initiative aims to keep residents informed about local events and services. The first edition of the revamped newsletter is set to be released in mid-February, thanks in part to the collaborative efforts of Kelly Christopher from Tallmadge City Schools.

The meeting also highlighted upcoming events at the rec center, including the Winter Wonderland dinner dance on February 8, featuring a diverse musical lineup, and Family Fun Night on February 28. Tickets for these events will soon be available, encouraging community participation and engagement.

As the council wrapped up, they expressed optimism for the year ahead, particularly with the recent appointment of Mr. Solerno to the civil service commission, which is now fully staffed. With a focus on community safety, communication, and engagement, Tallmadge is poised for a promising year, driven by the dedication of its public servants and the active involvement of its residents.
