Athens City Council finalizes agreement with McMinn Regional Humane Society

The City of Athens held a study session on March 10, 2025, focusing primarily on the approval of a memorandum of agreement between the city and the McMinn Regional Humane Society. City Attorney confirmed that most items discussed in previous meetings have been addressed, with the exception of a final itemized list of property being transferred from the Humane Society to the city.

During the meeting, it was noted that the Humane Society will provide a detailed inventory of equipment and personal property by March 31, 2025. This list will be incorporated into the agreement on April 1, 2025. The city officials expressed satisfaction with the progress made during discussions, highlighting the collaborative efforts of City Manager Randy Dowling and Public Works representative Mr. Helms.

The meeting underscored the importance of finalizing the agreement to enhance the partnership between the city and the Humane Society, which aims to improve animal welfare services in the community. Further steps will be taken to ensure all necessary documentation is completed in a timely manner.
