The Canal Winchester Local School District celebrated student achievements and staff excellence during its recent board meeting on February 12, 2024. The highlight of the evening was the recognition of students who excelled in various regional competitions, showcasing their skills in areas such as prepared speech, interview techniques, and economic research.
Among the standout students, Meredith Avery earned first place in the region for her prepared speech, while Taja Kumba secured the top spot for interview skills. Other notable achievements included Jonathan Redmond, who also placed first in economic research, and Nathan Hagen, who excelled in Linux operations. The board acknowledged the hard work of these students, who will compete in their respective events on March 9.
In addition to student accolades, the meeting featured the "Knock Your Socks Off" staff recognition program, which honors educators and staff who make a significant impact on students' lives. Brenna Bridal, a third-grade teacher, was celebrated for her dedication and nurturing approach, which has greatly benefited her students. Other honorees included Carla Sharp, who became a registered behavior technician to better support students with behavioral challenges, and Jenna Roberts, a mental health specialist recognized for her exceptional support of students and staff.
The board also acknowledged Victor Wade for his contributions to student life through various committees and Danny Morales for his positive influence on students and their families. Each recipient received applause and tokens of appreciation for their hard work and commitment to the Canal Winchester community.
As the district continues to prioritize student success and staff support, these recognitions serve as a reminder of the vital role educators play in shaping the future of their students. The board's commitment to fostering a supportive and empowering environment remains a cornerstone of the Canal Winchester Local School District's mission.
