School honors 20 students for perfect state achievement test scores

Fairborn City School District celebrated academic excellence and athletic achievements during its Board of Education meeting on December 5, 2024. The highlight of the evening was the recognition of 20 students who achieved perfect scores on state achievement tests, a testament to their hard work and dedication.

Dr. Brackenhoff opened the ceremony by acknowledging the impressive feat of these students, who were among 5,895 tests taken in the past spring. The recognition included students from various grades and subjects, showcasing a range of academic talents. Notably, Rosalie Grenier and Cora Houghton from fourth grade earned perfect scores in English Language Arts (ELA), while Grenier also excelled in fourth grade math, making her one of the few students to achieve this dual honor.

The ceremony continued with accolades for students in fifth grade ELA, seventh grade ELA, and various math and science categories, culminating in applause for students from high school who excelled in American government. The presence of supportive teachers and parents underscored the collaborative effort behind these achievements.

In addition to academic recognition, the meeting also celebrated athletic accomplishments. The boys' cross country team and the girls' tennis team were honored for winning the Miami Valley League division titles, marking a significant milestone for the district's sports programs. Coach Josh Steck and his assistant, Dimitri Furman, were recognized for their leadership, with Steck named Coach of the Year in the Miami Valley League.

This meeting not only highlighted the academic and athletic successes of Fairborn City students but also reinforced the community's commitment to fostering an environment where students can thrive.
