The Fairborn City School District is making significant strides in the construction of its new high school, with the substantial completion date set for May 2024, just a few months away. During the recent Board of Education meeting, updates on the project highlighted various developments that are shaping the future of education in the community.
The auxiliary gym, which faced delays, is nearing completion, with floor staining work currently underway. Outside, construction crews are focused on laying concrete on the south side of the building, aiming to finish this work within the week. Once the concrete is completed, the final layer of asphalt will be applied, marking a major milestone in the project.
Inside the school, the main entrance and commons area are seeing progress with the installation of a terrazzo floor, a meticulous process that is currently in progress. Additionally, preparations are being made to lay the floor in the arena, with wood already on-site and ready for installation.
The performing arts center is also advancing well, and the all-purpose turf field is nearly finished, complete with end zone lettering and a central logo. The athletic training center has begun construction, with footers laid and block work underway.
As the school prepares for the transition, movers are scheduled to relocate staff and equipment in June, a process expected to take about two weeks. This transition will also include moving the iconic rock from the current high school to the new location during spring break, allowing the graduating class of 2024 to paint it at its new home.
The meeting also addressed the relocation of the arch from the old school to the new football practice field, preserving a piece of Fairborn's history for future generations.
These developments reflect the district's commitment to providing modern facilities that enhance the educational experience for students and the community. As the completion date approaches, excitement builds for the new high school, which promises to be a source of pride for Fairborn residents.
