After prom fundraising reaches $2957 with community support in Perrier

The Perrysburg Exempted Village Board of Education convened on February 18, 2025, to discuss various community initiatives and funding efforts aimed at enhancing student experiences. The meeting highlighted the ongoing support for the after-prom event, which has become a significant tradition for local seniors.

The discussion began with a call for community involvement, encouraging families to consider sponsorship opportunities for the after-prom event. Doug, a board member, shared that this year’s fundraising efforts have already yielded $2,957, contributing to a total of $30,585 raised since the event's inception. He emphasized the rising costs associated with organizing the event, which have increased from approximately $15,000 in earlier years to around $25,000 currently.

Mary Hyer, co-chair of the after-prom committee, expressed gratitude for the community's support, noting that without it, the event would not be possible. She detailed the plans for this year’s western-themed event, which will feature inflatables, mechanical bulls, and cartoonists to entertain attendees. The committee aims to ensure that every senior and their guests have a memorable experience.

The meeting also touched on the importance of local businesses benefiting from the after-prom activities. Rick, another committee member, highlighted how the antique car show, which serves as a fundraiser, not only supports the after-prom but also increases foot traffic in downtown Perrysburg on Friday nights, benefiting local merchants.

Following these discussions, the board took a brief five-minute recess before continuing with the agenda. The meeting underscored the collaborative efforts between the school board, community members, and local businesses to create a safe and enjoyable environment for students during significant events. The board's commitment to fostering community engagement and support for student activities remains a priority as they move forward.
