At the November 4 meeting of the New Philadelphia City Schools Board, Central Elementary Principal highlighted the school's innovative approach to student support through the introduction of the Rebate Improvement Plan Intervention (RIMS). This year marks a significant milestone as Central implements this program aimed at enhancing educational outcomes for students needing additional assistance.
Principal introduced two key staff members: Cara Ramey, a first-year teacher and former student of Central, and Jonathan Ruiz, the school's first full-time bilingual professional. Ramey shared her role in providing targeted support to students, working closely with small and mid-grade groups to bolster their reading skills. She emphasized the importance of her contributions, stating, "I help the teachers and the students," showcasing a collaborative effort to improve student learning.
Ruiz, who also joined the team this year, focuses on supporting Spanish-speaking students. His responsibilities include translating materials and communicating with families, ensuring that language barriers do not hinder educational progress. "I work with them, reading stories, translating any quizzes or tests they need," Ruiz explained, underscoring his vital role in fostering an inclusive learning environment.
The principal praised both Ramey and Ruiz for their transformative impact on the school, noting how their efforts have significantly enhanced the educational experience for students. As Central Elementary continues to implement RIMS, the board anticipates positive outcomes for student engagement and achievement in the coming months.
