The Lakewood City Schools Board of Education meeting on November 4, 2024, celebrated the dedication of two outstanding educators, Tom Hagenbaugh and Maria Salzer, who were recognized for their exceptional commitment to students and their embodiment of the district's vision for educators.

Tom Hagenbaugh, a teacher at Garfield, transitioned from a career in finance to special education, inspired by his family experiences. His nominator, Mark Mitchell, highlighted Tom's ability to create a safe and caring environment for his students, while fellow nominator Erica O'Grady praised his collaborative spirit and dedication to making each student feel valued. "He is a great communicator and collaborator," she noted, emphasizing Tom's role as a supportive team player.

Maria Salzer, the Family Resource Coordinator at Hays Elementary, was also honored for her impactful work with families. With a background as a social worker and personal experience as a single parent, Maria connects deeply with the families she serves. Her nominator, Jennifer Woolley, commended her authentic kindness and stellar communication skills, stating that Maria's openness fosters trust and stronger relationships with families.

Both educators received heartfelt recognition from the board, underscoring the importance of their roles in the Lakewood community. The meeting also included a presentation from Treasurer Mr. Zeman, who discussed the district's five-year financial forecast, outlining revenue sources and spending impacts.

The recognition of Hagenbaugh and Salzer not only highlights individual achievements but also reflects the district's commitment to fostering a supportive educational environment for all students.
