During the recent Marysville Exempted Village Schools Board of Education meeting, a strong call to action was made regarding the urgent need for a new levy to be placed on the ballot this spring. The discussion highlighted the critical importance of community support in ensuring the success of the district, its students, and its teachers.
Stephanie Miller, a representative from the Marysville Education Association (MEA), emphasized that despite the challenges of "levy fatigue," it is essential for the community to remain committed and united in their efforts. She pointed out that while the passage of a spring levy may not provide immediate financial relief, it is crucial for maintaining essential positions within the district, including school resource officers, and for restoring extracurricular programs that have been affected by budget cuts.
Miller stressed that the successful passage of the levy in May is vital for the future of the district, particularly for preserving arts, music programs, and Advanced Placement classes, as well as preventing the layoffs of 30 teachers. She urged parents, community members, and local leaders to rally together and support the levy, highlighting that a thriving school system is fundamental to the community's well-being.
The meeting underscored the importance of collective action and the need for a strategic approach to ensure the levy’s success. As the community prepares for the upcoming vote, the call for unity and support from all stakeholders remains a central theme in the district's efforts to secure its future.
