Transportation Department recognizes outstanding drivers and staff at Mayfield Schools event

The Mayfield School District held its Regular Board Meeting on May 22, 2024, where the primary focus was on the transportation department's achievements and recognition of outstanding staff members. Mark, the director of transportation, along with assistant director Rachel Bach, presented an overview of the department's operations and highlighted the dedication of their team.

Mark began by sharing the daily logistics of the transportation department, which manages 46 bus runs in the morning and an additional 47 in the afternoon, covering over 2,500 miles each day. The department transports approximately 2,200 students to and from seven Mayfield schools and 60 nearby private schools. In addition to regular routes, the team also handles field trips, athletic events, and special requests, completing over 700 additional trips throughout the year.

The meeting featured a special segment to honor exemplary staff members nominated by their peers. Four drivers and one secretary were recognized for their exceptional service.

Tom Murphy, a veteran driver, was praised for his reliability and willingness to assist with any trip. Jason Burke was commended for his positive attitude and humor, as well as his role in transporting special needs students and managing food deliveries. Yildiz, a secretary, was acknowledged for her helpfulness and team spirit, often stepping in as a bus aide. Chris Walsh, a newer driver, was recognized for his dependability and willingness to help others, while another driver, Nick, was celebrated for his kindness and dedication to the students.

The meeting concluded with a light-hearted moment, reflecting the camaraderie and spirit of the transportation team as they approach the end of the school year. Overall, the meeting underscored the critical role of the transportation department in ensuring student safety and well-being, while also celebrating the hard work and commitment of its staff.
