The Wyoming City School District celebrated remarkable achievements at the May 2024 Board of Education meeting, highlighting the outstanding performances of both the high school choir and environmental science students.
The choir, under the direction of Mr. Fox, recently excelled at the Ohio Music Educators Association (OMEA) competition, earning the highest rating possible. They showcased their talent at the state level after receiving perfect scores at the regional competition. The choir's performance included a challenging sight-reading segment, where they had to sing a piece of music they had never seen before, demonstrating their skill and preparation. The choir members were recognized with an official OMPAA state level plaque, which will be displayed in their choir room.
In addition to the musical accolades, the district's environmental science students also shone brightly. Three teams from Wyoming City were among the top ten finalists in Ohio's "Caring for Our Watershed" contest, which encourages students to develop projects that benefit local ecosystems. Notably, Ashley Miller and Jack O'Leary secured first place with their innovative soil solution proposal, while Sarah Criddle and Elizabeth Baker's teams also received recognition for their impactful projects. The students not only earned cash prizes but also secured matching funds for their school to implement their projects.
These achievements underscore the exceptional talent and dedication of Wyoming City students, showcasing their ability to excel both in the arts and in environmental stewardship. The community is encouraged to celebrate these accomplishments as the district continues to foster a culture of excellence.
