The Wyoming City School District Board of Education meeting on May 23, 2024, showcased a series of student achievements and initiatives, highlighting the district's commitment to academic excellence and community engagement.
The meeting commenced with a celebration of the district's chess team, which recently triumphed in the Greater Cincinnati Scholastic Chess League. The team secured first place in their division, outperforming other schools in the Cincinnati Hills League (CHL). Notably, David Reppi was recognized as the tournament champion, while Ben Long was acknowledged for winning the screen chess championship. The team also excelled in the playoffs, defeating strong competitors, including Boller and State X.
Following the chess accolades, Todd Weighinghar presented the achievements of students who participated in the National Math Exam. Out of 83 students who took the exam, 57 qualified for awards, with nine earning gold medals. Among them, Fiona achieved a perfect score, placing her in the top 1% of participants globally. The students were honored at a breakfast banquet held at Miami High School on May 15.
The meeting also featured a presentation by Louise Anderson, who introduced students involved in the Magnified Giving Project. This initiative allowed students to engage in voluntary projects focused on social issues such as gender and racial inequality. Students collaborated with the Research Innovation Center to create educational websites addressing these topics, integrating their findings with the sociology curriculum.
Overall, the meeting highlighted the district's dedication to fostering student achievement and social awareness, with plans for continued support of these initiatives in the future.
