The Wyoming City School District held its May 2024 Board of Education meeting on May 23, showcasing a range of student achievements and athletic successes that highlight the district's commitment to excellence in education and extracurricular activities.

One of the most notable discussions centered around the accomplishments of students participating in a recent Model United Nations conference. With approximately 800 attendees, the event recognized outstanding delegates, including students Kate Geigen, Alice Carnes, and Rose Woodside, who received leadership awards. The student-run organization demonstrated the importance of collaborative leadership, emphasizing that effective leaders often support their teams from behind the scenes.

The meeting also celebrated the achievements of the middle school track and field team, which had a historic season. Coach Paul Schwartz reported that this year marked the first time the middle school hosted a home track meet. The boys' and girls' teams both won their respective championships in a dramatic finish, with the girls clinching victory by just half a point. Additionally, five students qualified for the middle school state championships, showcasing the high level of talent within the program.

In swimming, the high school team, led by Coach Dave Elliott, also had a successful season, winning both the CHL and district championships. Fourteen swimmers competed at the state championship, with the program's future looking bright due to the strong performance of its young athletes.

The wrestling and bowling teams were also recognized for their achievements. The wrestling program saw individual success with Joel Hancock becoming a CHL champion, while Javin Gravestone set a school record in bowling with a score of 279.

The meeting concluded with a celebration of the boys' basketball teams, which achieved CHL championships at the seventh, eighth, and high school levels. The district's commitment to fostering athletic talent was evident, with a total of 84 student-athletes receiving all-conference honors throughout the year.
