In a spirited gathering at the Wyoming City School District's Board of Education meeting, the atmosphere buzzed with pride as the high school golf team celebrated a remarkable season. Coach Ben Barber took center stage, sharing the team's impressive achievements both on and off the course.
This year, the team not only excelled in competition—winning the sectional title, finishing second in the district, and placing second in the state—but also demonstrated academic excellence, with every player earning CHL academic all-league honors. "Having a player who averaged 33 on the course and committed to Ohio State makes my life a lot easier," Barber remarked, highlighting the talent and dedication of his athletes.
The coach expressed gratitude for the unwavering support from the school board, the golf club, and alumni, which has fostered a nurturing environment for the team. With 24 players showing up for tryouts, the program's growth is evident, leading to the formation of two junior varsity squads. "We didn't count one person this year," Barber noted, emphasizing the commitment to inclusivity and development within the program.
As the meeting progressed, Barber also shared exciting news about upcoming improvements at the treatment center, which will provide indoor facilities for the golf team. This development promises to enhance training opportunities and further elevate the team's performance.
In a heartfelt moment, Barber presented a plaque to Benley Bartlett, who earned the prestigious title of first team all Ohio. The recognition underscored the individual and collective accomplishments of the team, leaving attendees inspired by the dedication and spirit of Wyoming's young athletes.
As the meeting concluded, the sense of community and support for the golf program resonated, setting a hopeful tone for the future of the team and its players.
