Sweetwater plans Founders' Day celebration and guided historical tours on April 12

The monthly workshop of the Mayor and Board of Commissioners of Sweetwater, Tennessee, held on March 24, 2025, focused on upcoming community events and concerns regarding a service contract.

One of the main highlights was the planning for Founders' Day, scheduled for April 12. The event will begin at 11:30 AM on Miller Street, featuring a dedication of a mural celebrating the city's 150th anniversary. Brent Miller will portray Sweetwater's founder, and local high school students will assist in the ceremony. State representatives are expected to present a resolution to the city during the event. The celebration will include a fashion show, food trucks, vendors, and guided walking tours of historical buildings, led by community members in costume.

In addition to Founders' Day, the city is preparing for Bloom's Bluegrass Barbecue, which will take place two weeks later. The Mayor emphasized the importance of good weather for these events, which are expected to draw significant community participation.

The meeting also addressed concerns regarding the HyperReach contract, which has not seen adequate follow-up since September. The Mayor expressed dissatisfaction with the service provider's performance as the contract approaches its end on June 30, noting that the city is only in the second year of a three-year agreement.
