Leafline Labs seeks new cannabis license to support Minnesota medical patients

In the heart of Cottage Grove, a significant discussion unfolded as Tiffany Newbern Johnson, Director of Government Affairs for Leafline Labs and Green Thumb Industries, addressed the City Council. With a calm confidence, she introduced her team, including Deke Fisher, the General Manager of Production, and Mark Byers from Byers Scientific, who were present to provide insights into their operations and proposals.

Leafline Labs, a cornerstone of the local economy since 2015, is one of only two licensed medical cannabis companies in Minnesota. Johnson highlighted the company’s substantial investment in the community, noting that they have poured tens of millions of dollars into their cultivation and manufacturing facilities. This commitment has not only bolstered the local economy but has also created over 240 jobs, including more than 70 positions at their Cottage Grove facility.

The company proudly serves over 52,000 medical cannabis patients across the state, many of whom are minors relying on specialized products for relief. Johnson emphasized the importance of their role in providing safe, high-quality cannabis products, which include tinctures, topicals, and pill capsules.

As the landscape of cannabis regulation evolves, Leafline is adapting to new laws. Johnson announced that they submitted an application for a medical cannabis combination business license under the new adult use program on February 21. She expressed optimism about the positive feedback received from the Office of Cannabis Management regarding their application. This step is crucial for Leafline to maintain its operations and continue serving Minnesota's medical community.
