Johnson Elementary honors Florentina Pinto de Colunga as Auxiliary Employee of the Month

During the Bryan Independent School District (BISD) School Board Meeting on March 24, 2025, two significant recognitions highlighted the contributions of staff members who play vital roles in the district's educational environment.

The meeting commenced with the acknowledgment of Florentina Pinto de Colunga, who was named the Auxiliary Employee of the Month for March 2025. As the head custodian at Johnson Elementary, Pinto de Colunga has been with BISD for two years and has taken on the responsibility of leading a team of custodians to maintain the cleanliness and safety of the school campus. Her commitment to excellence was particularly noted during a recent inspection by the Texas Education Agency (TEA), where she ensured her team was trained in emergency preparedness, enhancing the campus's overall readiness. Her strong work ethic and attention to detail have made a significant impact on the health and safety of the school environment.

In addition to this recognition, the board celebrated Lisa Mouton, the social studies and foreign language coordinator, who received the prestigious John Crane Texas History Education Award from the Texas State Historical Association. This award honors her exceptional contributions to Texas History Day and her dedication to promoting local history education. Beyond her role in the district, Mouton is actively involved in the community, serving on the City of College Station Historic Preservation Committee and as the Board Chairman for the Brazos Valley African American Museum. Her leadership extends to her church, where she acts as a communication director, further demonstrating her commitment to education and community service.
