Carlsbad Lancer Dancers celebrate national titles with city council gratitude

The City of Carlsbad held a council meeting on March 25, 2025, where several important topics were discussed, including a special recognition for the Carlsbad varsity dance team, the Lancer Dancers.

The meeting began with a brief introduction and a public comment session. Ella Villalobos, a junior on the Carlsbad varsity dance team, addressed the council alongside her teammates Mavic Scuttridge, Sam Waterhouse, Lexi Shapiro, Amanda Witt, Brooke Zamoff, and Charlotte Ward. Villalobos expressed gratitude for the city’s support through the winning team's grant, which enabled the team to travel to Florida for the UDA Nationals.

The Lancer Dancers achieved remarkable success at the competition, securing first place in the Division 1 jazz category, second place in hip hop, and sixth place in game day. Villalobos emphasized that these accomplishments not only marked a historic achievement for the team but also elevated Carlsbad's reputation on a national level for dance excellence.

As a gesture of appreciation, the team presented a plaque to the city council, thanking them for their support of youth sports and for helping them achieve their dreams. The council members participated in a photo session with the dancers, celebrating their achievements and the community's role in their success.

The meeting concluded with a sense of pride in the accomplishments of the Lancer Dancers and a reaffirmation of the city's commitment to supporting local youth initiatives.
