Greater SATX unveils ambitious five-year economic development strategy for San Antonio

The San Antonio Economic and Workforce Development Committee convened on March 25, 2025, to discuss significant advancements in job creation and economic growth within the region. The meeting highlighted the ongoing efforts of Greater SATX, formerly known as the San Antonio Economic Development Foundation, which is celebrating its 50th anniversary this year.

The organization has set ambitious goals for the next five years, aiming to generate $55 billion in economic impact, create 24,000 new jobs in targeted industries, and facilitate $5 billion in capital investment. These initiatives are designed to enhance economic mobility for San Antonio residents. The committee reported a notable increase in educational attainment, which has risen by 6.4% over the past five years, contributing to wage growth and a low unemployment rate of 3.8%.

San Antonio has emerged as a leader in job creation, ranking as the number one market in Texas and third in the U.S. for job growth in 2024. The city has also seen a 4% increase in airport capacity, which is vital for economic development, alongside recognition from PricewaterhouseCoopers as a top real estate market for investment.

The meeting underscored the importance of a strong pipeline for economic development, with over 100 requests for information (RFIs) currently open for potential projects. The committee noted that last year, more than 50 leads converted into active projects, indicating a robust economic environment.

In addition to job creation, the committee discussed the need for strategic alignment in funding models to ensure equitable access for all community members. The focus will also be on enhancing site readiness to accommodate corporate needs and expanding air service development to support local businesses.

The meeting concluded with a commitment to continue fostering partnerships with educational institutions to align workforce development with industry needs, ensuring that graduates are well-prepared for future job markets. The committee remains optimistic about the ongoing economic initiatives and their potential to transform San Antonio into a thriving hub for business and employment.
