Mayor Holt declares April 2025 Litter Blitz month in Oklahoma City

Oklahoma City is gearing up for its annual Litter Blitz, a community initiative aimed at beautifying the city and promoting environmental responsibility. During the city council meeting on March 25, 2025, Mayor David Holt proclaimed April 2025 as Litter Blitz Month, encouraging residents to participate in this vital effort.

Litter Blitz is a collaborative program between Oklahoma City Beautiful and the city, designed to tackle litter across neighborhoods, parks, and roadways. Last year, over 4,000 volunteers collected more than 70,000 pounds of litter, showcasing the significant impact of community involvement. This year, organizers hope to surpass that achievement.

Residents can sign up online to participate in Litter Blitz, where they will receive free supply kits that include trash bags, gloves, and hand sanitizer. The kickoff event, "Tackle the Trails," is scheduled for April 5, where volunteers will clean segments of the city’s extensive 100-mile trail system.

Lauren, affectionately dubbed the "litter queen" of Oklahoma City, emphasized the importance of community participation in maintaining the city’s aesthetics and economic vitality. She invited groups of friends, family, and coworkers to join in the cleanup efforts, reinforcing that a cleaner environment benefits everyone.

The meeting also featured appearances from community mascots and representatives from Oklahoma City Beautiful, highlighting the longstanding tradition of Litter Blitz and its role in fostering civic pride. As the city prepares for another successful cleanup month, residents are reminded that their involvement is crucial in keeping Oklahoma City beautiful.
