Soroptimist group awards $10K in scholarships to women pursuing education

Calaveras County's Soroptimist International chapter is making significant strides in empowering women through education, as highlighted in a recent meeting. The group, currently comprising 33 dedicated members, is focused on its mission to support women, particularly those who are heads of households.

One of the key initiatives discussed was the "Live Your Dream" scholarship program, which is a hallmark of Soroptimist organizations worldwide. This program provides financial assistance to women pursuing education, whether at colleges or vocational schools. This year, the chapter awarded $10,000 in scholarships to three deserving recipients, including a single mother of five who is working towards her master's degree.

The chapter's efforts are particularly impactful given the geographical challenges of serving a diverse community that stretches from Mountain Ranch to Arnold and down to Valley Springs. Despite being the only charter in the county, the Soroptimists are committed to reaching as many women as possible, emphasizing that their size does not limit their effectiveness.
