Safe Project expands support for survivors with new city and county funding

The Laramie City Council meeting on March 26, 2025, highlighted critical discussions surrounding local support services for survivors of domestic abuse. The Safe Project presented its ongoing efforts to assist clients in their healing journeys, emphasizing the need for continued funding from the city and county to sustain operations.

During the meeting, representatives from the Safe Project detailed how their shelter provides essential support, including weekly meetings with advocates, groceries, and toiletries for clients. However, they noted that as the number of clients has increased, so have operational expenses. The funding requested will help maintain shelter services, office operations, and financial assistance for clients, ensuring that advocates can continue their vital work.

A poignant testimony from a survivor underscored the importance of the Safe Project's services. The anonymous individual shared their harrowing experience of escaping an abusive situation, crediting the Safe Project staff with providing crucial support and guidance. The survivor expressed gratitude for the assistance received, stating that without it, they might not have found safety.

Following the Safe Project's presentation, Ralph Fawaz introduced Telehope, a newer organization in the community, which has been operational for just over two years. The meeting provided a platform for these organizations to seek support and raise awareness about the challenges faced by survivors of domestic violence in Laramie.
