Eagle Scout Molly Murphy presents Middlesex Canal project with kiosk and memorial bench

In a recent meeting of the Woburn Conservation Commission, a promising Eagle Scout project took center stage, capturing the attention of local officials and residents alike. Molly Murphy, a Life Scout from Troop 502, presented her plans for a kiosk and a memorial bench along the scenic Middlesex Canal, aiming to enhance the area while honoring a beloved community member.

Murphy's project, which is set to begin in April, will feature a kiosk positioned near the School Street entrance. This kiosk will initially display historical information about the canal and will eventually be managed by the city of Woburn, allowing for updates and additional content. The bench, designed for two, will serve as a memorial dedicated to John Caviello, a former conservation member and a cherished scout parent.

The commission members expressed their enthusiasm for the project, noting the increasing use of the trail and the positive impact the bench and kiosk will have on the community. The project is designed to minimize disruption to the natural landscape, with plans for hand digging to ensure that the area remains undisturbed.

As the meeting progressed, the commission members acknowledged the importance of community involvement in such initiatives. Murphy had already reached out to local residents along the canal to inform them about the project, fostering a sense of collaboration and transparency.
