Lexington 1 launches LexOne Med Start and Next Gen Educator pathways for students

In a vibrant meeting held on March 25, 2025, the Lexington 01 Board of Trustees gathered to discuss exciting new educational pathways for students in the district. Mr. Calhoun highlighted two innovative pathways that promise to reshape the educational landscape for high school students. The first, the LexOne Med Start program, is a collaboration between Lexington Medical Center (LMC) and Midlands Technical College (MTC). This initiative aims to provide students interested in the medical field with a unique opportunity to gain dual credits and real-world experience. Starting as early as their sophomore year, students can engage in job shadowing and internships, culminating in a paid apprenticeship during their senior year. This pathway not only offers a tuition-free education but also guarantees employment upon completion, a significant advantage in today’s competitive job market.

The second initiative, the LexOne Next Gen Educator Pathway, focuses on nurturing future educators. This two-year program allows students to immerse themselves in classroom environments alongside experienced teachers, fostering a passion for education. With a goal of integrating existing teacher cadet programs, this pathway aims to inspire students to join the Lexington 01 family as educators.

As the meeting progressed, board members expressed enthusiasm for these programs, recognizing their potential to address workforce needs while providing students with valuable skills and experiences. Mr. Calhoun noted that initial interest has been strong, with 25 to 30 applicants for the Med Start program already, and he anticipates similar enthusiasm for the educator pathway.
