Developer Matt Kostelec proposes new boat and RV storage facility on NC Highway 8

During the Davidson County Commissioners Meeting on March 24, 2025, a significant discussion centered around a proposed rezoning application for a property located at 6685 NC Highway 8. The request aims to change the zoning from RA2 Rural Agricultural District to CZHC Conditional Zoning Highway Commercial District, which would allow for the development of a boat and RV storage facility.

Developer Matt Kostelec presented plans for the facility, which will include climate-controlled storage buildings and covered parking for boats and recreational vehicles. He emphasized the growing demand for such services in the area, noting that many new homes lack adequate storage options, leading residents to park their vehicles outside, vulnerable to theft and vandalism.

The property, measuring 8.94 acres, is situated at the intersection of Hunt Road and Hugh Miller Road. The Planning Board had previously reviewed the application and recommended approval, despite some initial concerns regarding parking. Following a remand for further consideration, the board reaffirmed its support for the project.

The proposed facility aims to provide a secure and aesthetically pleasing environment for vehicle storage, featuring a brick facade on the buildings and ornamental aluminum fencing. Kostelec highlighted the importance of creating a safe space for residents to store their recreational vehicles, aligning with the community's needs as new developments continue to rise in the area.

No public opposition was voiced during the meeting, and the board members expressed no further questions, indicating a smooth path forward for the project. The commissioners will review staff recommendations before making a final decision on the rezoning application, which could significantly enhance local storage options for residents.
