NACS honors state champions and outstanding educators at recognition event

The Northwest Allen County Schools (NACS) held a vibrant regular school board meeting on March 24, 2025, showcasing numerous recognitions that highlighted the achievements of students and staff within the district. Superintendent Barker opened the meeting by emphasizing the importance of these recognitions, setting a celebratory tone for the evening.

Among the notable honorees was Mrs. Natalie Hoffman, the NACS transportation director, who recently passed the National Association for Pupil Transportation (NAPT) national certification exam. This achievement makes her the only active certified director of pupil transportation in Indiana, underscoring her commitment to excellence in her role.

Another significant recognition went to Mr. Brandon Basham, who was named the Region 3 Business Official of the Year by the Indiana Association of School Business Officials. His rapid ascent in the field, coupled with his leadership in managing business functions and overseeing construction projects, has earned him respect within the district and beyond.

The meeting also celebrated the academic prowess of Caleb Chen, a middle school student who won the AMC 8 national math competition, placing in the top 1% nationwide. His thoughtful demeanor and respect for peers and teachers were highlighted by Maple Creek Middle School's assistant principal, showcasing the character behind his academic success.

In the realm of arts education, Mrs. Nicole Croy, a photography teacher at Carroll High School, received the 2025 High School Educator Award from the Society for Photographic Education. Her innovative workshop that combined photography with botany and science was recognized for its excellence, reflecting the high standards of teaching within the district.

Athletic achievements were also prominent, with junior Avery Zimbo being recognized as the IHSAA state champion on the uneven bars in gymnastics. Her accomplishments, alongside her sectional and regional titles, illustrate the strong athletic programs at Carroll High School.

Finally, the Carroll Hockey Club was celebrated for their impressive season, culminating in a thrilling state championship victory. With a record of 39 wins, 1 loss, and 3 ties, the team showcased their skill and determination, winning the championship in a dramatic triple overtime match.
