Chippewa County outlines four goals for community health programs by 2027

In a recent meeting of the Chippewa County Board, significant strides were made towards enhancing community health and support services. The board reviewed a comprehensive three-year plan developed through extensive community surveys and input from various stakeholders, including employees and advisory boards.

One of the standout initiatives is the plan to increase the number of annual Power of Attorney workshops from four to six. This popular program aims to empower residents by educating them on how to advocate for themselves and others when necessary. The workshops are conducted in collaboration with adult protective services, highlighting the county's commitment to community awareness and preparation.

Another key goal is to establish enhanced partnerships to meet the quarterly nutrition education requirements set by the Bureau of Aging and Disability Resources (VADER). This initiative focuses on providing vital nutrition information to the community, emphasizing the importance of collaboration in addressing public health needs.

The board also set a goal to ensure that health promotion programming equitably serves all Chippewa County residents, particularly those from underserved and vulnerable populations. This effort aims to identify these groups and tailor services to meet their specific needs by 2027.

Additionally, the plan includes expanding resources for non-professional caregivers, equipping them with essential skills for providing support. This will involve offering information on basic care techniques, health and safety, and communication skills, including instructional videos.

These goals were approved during previous meetings of the Aging and Disability Resource Center (ADRC) and the Health and Human Services Board, and they now await further implementation.

In a related resolution, the board expressed support for the establishment of an inpatient psychiatric treatment facility in Northern Wisconsin. This initiative aims to address the growing mental health needs in the region, reflecting the board's commitment to improving health services for all residents.
