Mosaic Technologies outlines broadband expansion plans for Chippewa County funding

During the Chippewa County Board's regular meeting on December 10, 2024, discussions centered on the critical need for improved broadband access in the region, particularly through the "Internet for All" initiative. This program, supported by the Public Service Commission (PSC) and the National Telecommunications and Information Administration (NTIA), aims to bridge the digital divide by addressing infrastructure gaps for unserved and underserved households.

Mosaic Technologies, a key player in this initiative, presented their plans to enhance broadband services in Chippewa County. They highlighted the importance of achieving minimum speeds of 25 Mbps download and 3 Mbps upload for unserved areas, and 100 Mbps download and 20 Mbps upload for underserved areas. Mosaic Technologies plans to offer scalable internet services starting at 100 Mbps symmetrical speeds, with the potential to expand up to 10 Gbps, ensuring that the technology remains relevant and reliable for future needs.

The company emphasized the urgency of the situation, noting that the PSC is expected to open grant applications by mid-January 2025, with a focus on areas that have submitted letters of intent by the October 1 deadline. Mosaic Technologies aims to complete installations for approximately 1,700 locations by February 2030, contingent on favorable weather conditions and logistical considerations.

In addition to broadband services, Mosaic Technologies also discussed their broader portfolio, which includes home automation, security systems, and IT support services. This comprehensive approach aims to enhance the overall quality of life for residents by providing not just internet access, but also integrated technology solutions.
