Sandoval County outlines $16M road project developments and future plans

During a recent Sandoval County Commission meeting, officials presented an extensive overview of current and future road projects, highlighting the county's commitment to improving infrastructure. The presentation, led by David from the Sandoval County Road Department, detailed various projects funded through multiple sources, including state and federal funds, local capital funding, and road maintenance budgets.

Among the completed projects, the replacement of two aging bridges on County Road 11 was particularly noteworthy. These structures, which had reached the end of their life expectancy, were replaced with durable corrugated metal pipes, ensuring longevity and safety. The total cost for these replacements was approximately $2.1 million, with significant funding contributions from both county and state sources.

Another significant project discussed was the Camino A Las Estrellas drainage improvements, aimed at addressing erosion issues that threatened private properties. This project, costing around $301,000, utilized county capital and maintenance funds to install new drainage systems.

The meeting also covered ongoing projects, such as the Hidden Valley Bridge Replacement, which is currently under construction. This project, designed to withstand significant water flow, has a total budget nearing $2 million, funded through a combination of state and county resources.

Looking ahead, several projects are in the design phase, including improvements to Guadalupe Road and Placitas West Road, with estimated costs of $1.1 million and $1.85 million, respectively. These projects aim to rejuvenate deteriorating road surfaces and enhance safety for residents.

The commission emphasized the importance of these infrastructure improvements for the community, as they not only enhance transportation safety but also support local economic development. With funding requests submitted for future projects, the county is poised to continue its efforts in maintaining and upgrading its roadways, ensuring they meet the needs of residents for years to come.
