Village leaders unveil $64M redevelopment project after eight years of planning

The Village of Orland Park is set to break ground on a transformative redevelopment project in Downtown Orland Park, marking a significant milestone after years of planning and challenges. The groundbreaking ceremony, scheduled for the coming days, is the culmination of an eight-year effort to revitalize the area, which aims to enhance community engagement and economic growth.

The project will introduce a vibrant mix of pedestrian shopping and dining options, expanded green spaces, and new entertainment venues, including winter ice skating at Heroes Park. It will also feature office spaces and a beautified condo scene that overlooks the area, creating a seamless connection to the existing pedestrian-friendly environment across Green Road.

Village officials highlighted the importance of this development, emphasizing that it will not only improve the aesthetic appeal of Downtown but also provide substantial economic benefits. The project is expected to generate annual tax revenues for local schools, estimated between $350,000 and $500,000 once the Tax Increment Financing (TIF) district concludes.

Despite past financial setbacks, including a loss of $47 million tied to previous investments, village leaders remain optimistic about the future. They acknowledged the contributions of Edward Realty, which has remained committed to the project amid challenges and misinformation. The village's investment will focus on legacy obligations, including $8 million for utility relocations and enhancements to local parks.

With the project slated for completion by the end of next year, the Village of Orland Park is poised to usher in a new era of growth and community engagement, reinforcing its commitment to creating a thriving downtown environment.
