Jake Shigendance wins grand champion at Austin and Houston Steer Shows

In a spirited celebration of student achievements, the PISD Board Meeting on March 24 highlighted remarkable accomplishments from various competitions. Jake Shigendance, a standout student, clinched the grand champion title at both the Austin and Houston Steer Shows, marking a significant achievement for the school and the Panhandle region. His cousin, Jett, also excelled, securing the reserve champion title at the same events, showcasing a strong family legacy in agricultural competitions.

The meeting also recognized Britt Blackshear, who triumphed at the North Texas PGA golf round in Amarillo. In the realm of visual arts, a group of talented students received excellent ratings at the Visual Arts Scholastic event, with Cody Detman and several others achieving perfect scores. Notably, Kota Detman is set to compete as a state qualifier in San Marcos on April 26.

The artistic talents continued to shine with Sadie Cummins earning the Best of Show at the Wordwood Museum Art Competition, alongside other students whose works were selected for display. The VHS choir also celebrated state qualifiers in the solo and ensemble category, demonstrating the diverse talents within the district.

In FCCLA region 1 results, several students earned top placements, with multiple first-place finishes ensuring their advancement to state competitions. The meeting concluded with a nod to the athletic department, as Coach Hernandez was called upon to discuss further achievements in sports.

These accolades not only reflect the hard work and dedication of the students but also highlight the supportive environment fostered by the PISD community. As these young achievers prepare for upcoming competitions, their successes serve as an inspiration for their peers and the community at large.
