Fire Chief Rugg authorized to install new air filtration system at local fire station

Candia's Board of Selectmen has taken a significant step towards enhancing air quality at the local fire station by approving the installation of a new filtration system. During the meeting on February 24, 2025, the board authorized Fire Chief Rugg to initiate the process for this essential upgrade, which aims to improve the health and safety of firefighters and the surrounding community.

The decision comes after discussions about the necessity of modernizing the fire station's air filtration capabilities. The new system will automatically activate when fire trucks leave and return, ensuring that harmful exhaust fumes are filtered out effectively. Chief Rugg noted that the current setup is outdated and lacks the necessary space for traditional exhaust systems, making this upgrade crucial.

The board discussed the financial aspects of the project, with filters costing approximately $5 each for monthly changes and more expensive filters at $500 every two years. Funding for the project will be sourced from a trust fund, with the board responsible for approving expenditures based on submitted invoices.

In addition to the filtration system, the meeting also highlighted upcoming community events, including Candidate's Night on March 3 at the library and the elections scheduled for March 11. The next select board meeting is set for March 4, where further community matters will be addressed.
