In a recent Planning Commission meeting held on March 17, 2025, the City of Beaumont addressed two significant requests that could impact local residents.
The first item on the agenda involved a request for a specific use permit that was ultimately denied. The applicant did not attend the meeting, and after sending out 13 notices to property owners, the commission received no feedback in favor or opposition. Planning staff recommended denial, and the commission unanimously agreed, highlighting the importance of community engagement in such decisions.

The store aims to operate Monday through Saturday, offering a variety of beverages including sodas, beer, and wine. The planning staff recommended approval of this request, contingent upon meeting specific construction and safety requirements.
During the meeting, 42 notices were sent to property owners regarding the liquor store, resulting in two supportive responses and five objections. Concerns raised by residents included the proximity of the store to single-family homes and potential links to crime. However, the applicants, who operate multiple liquor stores in the area, defended their track record, stating that their establishments have not been associated with crime and that they plan to install security cameras.
After hearing from the applicants and the public, the commission moved to approve the liquor store permit, reflecting a balance between community concerns and the business's potential benefits.
As Beaumont continues to grow, these discussions highlight the ongoing dialogue between city officials, business owners, and residents, shaping the future of the community. The commission's decisions will play a crucial role in addressing local needs while fostering economic development.
