Northborough launches Power Choice program offering fixed electric prices and renewable options

Residents of Northborough are set to benefit from a new electricity supply program called Northborough Power Choice, which aims to provide more options and potentially lower costs for local consumers. During a recent public forum, officials outlined how this municipal initiative will allow residents to choose their electricity supplier while still relying on National Grid for delivery services.

The Northborough Power Choice program offers three distinct options for electricity supply, giving residents the flexibility to select a plan that best suits their needs. The default option, known as Northborough Economy, will provide electricity at a fixed rate of 13.964 cents per kilowatt hour, which is lower than National Grid's current residential price of 14.672 cents. This fixed pricing will remain stable for two years, from May 2025 to May 2027, protecting consumers from seasonal price fluctuations that typically affect National Grid's rates.

In addition to the Economy option, residents can opt for Northborough Green, which includes an additional 20% of electricity from renewable sources, or the Green Plus option, which offers 100% renewable electricity. These choices align with the community's growing interest in sustainable energy solutions, allowing residents to support renewable energy initiatives while managing their electricity costs.

The program is designed to simplify the electricity purchasing process for residents, as National Grid will continue to handle the delivery of electricity and billing. The changes will be reflected on residents' bills, where they will see First Point Power listed as their supplier under the supply services section.

Officials emphasized that while the program aims to provide savings and stability, there are no guarantees, as market conditions can fluctuate. However, historical data suggests that communities participating in similar aggregation programs often experience savings over time.

As Northborough moves forward with this initiative, residents are encouraged to consider their options and participate in the program, which promises to enhance their electricity purchasing power while contributing to a more sustainable energy future.
