Republic Services seeks five-year contract extension with favorable terms for city

During the recent Bandera County City Council meeting, discussions centered on the potential five-year extension of the contract with Republic Services, a key provider of waste management services in the area. The current contract is set to expire in October 2025, but Republic Services has formally requested an extension, which could be mutually agreed upon by both parties.

Owen Crisp from Republic Services highlighted that granting this extension would not incur any upfront costs for the city. The existing fee schedule would remain unchanged, ensuring that residents would not see an immediate increase in rates. The contract includes favorable terms, particularly regarding rate adjustments, which are capped at a maximum of 5% and a minimum of 2%. If the council decides against renewing the contract, they would need to issue a Request for Proposal (RFP) to seek new bids. However, there is no guarantee that future contracts would offer the same beneficial terms, making the extension a potentially advantageous option for the city.
