Rossmore residents are advocating for the construction of new pickleball courts to enhance community appeal and attract potential new residents. During a recent Walnut Creek Planning Commission meeting, a resident shared their personal journey of moving to Rossmore from Oakland in January 2024, motivated by the promise of a new pickleball facility. They highlighted a growing trend among senior living communities in California, which often feature superior pickleball amenities, making them more attractive to prospective buyers.
The resident expressed concern over the current state of Rossmore's pickleball courts, stating that many friends who toured the community were disappointed by their condition and unwilling to commit to living there without assurance of new facilities. They noted that while only about 650 residents are currently part of the pickleball club, the proposed courts would benefit all future residents, emphasizing the need for Rossmore to remain competitive in the housing market.

De Silva, a pickleball player and former planning commissioner, pointed out that the turnout at the meeting demonstrated that Rossmore residents are engaged and invested in the community's future.
The discussions at the meeting reflect a broader desire among residents to modernize Rossmore and ensure it remains an attractive option for seniors looking for vibrant living environments. As the city considers these proposals, the push for new pickleball courts could play a significant role in shaping the community's future and enhancing its appeal to potential residents.
