Rossmore unveils plan for new pickleball facility near event center

Walnut Creek's Planning Commission has made significant strides toward enhancing recreational opportunities in the community with the proposed development of a new pickleball facility. During a recent meeting on March 27, 2025, city officials discussed the careful selection process for the site, emphasizing the importance of compatibility with existing uses and minimizing noise impact on nearby residents.

After evaluating multiple locations, including existing tennis courts and parks, the commission identified a suitable open space adjacent to the event center and bordering the golf course. This site was chosen for its accessibility, existing parking, and restroom facilities, as well as its distance from residential areas, which will help mitigate sound concerns associated with pickleball play.

Architect David Massetin presented the design for the facility, which will feature six covered courts. The design aims to harmonize with the existing event center, utilizing similar materials and aesthetics to create a cohesive look. The facility will include sound-dampening features, such as acoustic blankets, to further reduce noise levels, which were a primary concern raised by community members.

The commission also addressed the results of sound studies conducted at various potential sites, confirming that the proposed location would meet noise guidelines. The facility is expected to operate from 8 AM to 6 PM, aligning with community expectations for noise management.
