City Council recommends school district changes for Keys Drive and Tammy Road areas

In a pivotal meeting on March 26, 2025, the Peabody School Committee's Re-Districting Ad Hoc Subcommittee made significant strides in reshaping local school district boundaries. The committee unanimously approved a motion to designate the Keys Drive and Essex Drive area as part of the McCarthy School district, a decision that aims to enhance educational access for families in that neighborhood.

Councilor Melville, who spearheaded the motion, emphasized the importance of community involvement and communication throughout the re-districting process. "This is a very difficult process, and I want to thank everyone for being here tonight," he stated, acknowledging the challenges faced by the committee. He expressed confidence in the commitment of the superintendent and the mayor to support affected families, particularly those unable to attend the meeting.

The committee also voted to recommend that the Tammy Road, Reynolds, and Loris neighborhood shift from the Center School to the Carroll School as their home district. This decision, like the previous one, was met with unanimous support from the councilors present.
