East Ridge approves building permits for Smoothie King and Whataburger developments

A significant update on East Ridge's development landscape emerged during the City Council meeting on March 27, 2025, as city officials announced several key projects set to reshape the area.

City Manager Miller highlighted the approval of building plans for a new Smoothie King at 6501 Ringgold Road, located at the corner of North Max Smith Road. This site will also feature a Jersey Mike's, marking a notable addition to the local dining scene. Additionally, six building permits have been issued for the Graston multifamily development behind Park Ridge Medical Center, with construction expected to commence soon.

Exciting developments are also underway on Fountain Avenue, where 15 patio homes are set to be built on a cleared two-acre tract. Meanwhile, the former Wally's building is transitioning to a Whataburger, with demolition and asbestos permits already secured, paving the way for construction to begin shortly.

In further news, the Garland Estates 2 subdivision plat, which will include 108 two-story townhouses, is currently under review. This project is located near the Hummingbird development and is expected to progress later this year.

On a community engagement note, the city is enhancing its visibility with new "Welcome to East Ridge" signs at key I-75 off-ramps. The sign at the southbound off-ramp is complete, awaiting electrical work for nighttime visibility, while the northbound sign is nearing completion.
